a lot of what i seem to be looking for has designations that i do not know what they are, can someone pls tell me what a 99 legacy with a 2.2 auto is called, is this body style or motor numbers?

You've got an ej22. Ea81 was a carbureted 1.8L engine used 'till 1985 for most Subes and 1989 for the hatchbacks.

Were they putting the 2.2L into the '99 Legacies? I thought they all got the 2.5L. ...unless you've had a 2.2L swapped in...

I did some research over at Edmunds.com. Seems that in 1999, the Legacy Outback and the GT got the ej25, while the Legacy L and the Brighton got the ej22.

before i bought the car i went to the dealer and made them pull it up by vin number and they said i am a 2.2, i did not want a 2.5

The first few digits of your vin should be something like "4S3BK4351X6........

 

4 is Country of Origin--US

S is Manufacturer--Subaru/Isuzu USA

3 is a Passenger car

B is Legacy

K is the Wagon (D is the Sedan)

4 is the 2.2 motor

5 is your manual seat belts and driver and passenger side air bags

_ is your check digit

6 is your assembly plant (Lafayette IN.) and transmission type. (6 is 5sp MT, 7 is Auto)

_ the last six are your sequience numbers

 

The sixth digit of your vin should be a "4" if you have the 2.2 motor.
