final drive change in an auto?

Recommended Posts

I have a 92 wagon that I want to lift 2", an put on slightly bigger tires. No true wheeling in mind, just xtra clearance for the trails....

Question is - I would like to lower the gear ratio without going to a manual w/ lo-range. Is it possible (easily) to change the final drive of the tranny?

Thanks!

You know...an auto may be just the thing for compensating for the larger tires.

If you don't abuse the auto too much it can function as a variable low range?

How big of tires are you thinking?

Not sure what is offered in 13's. Stock size is 185/70-13. My ride currently has some cheap 165-R13, no aspect ratio called out, they're metric.

I was thinking something like 175/80-13. That gives me about an extra 3/8" ground clearance over stock.
