92blackacy
Hey everyone, NEW to the subaru crew and the USMB with my recent purchase of a 92 legacy! It has 96k miles on it and everything seems to be working great and is stock  I gotta say I am pleased so far with it and it seems rather easy to work on compared to Hondas and Mitsubishis. I had a few questions to ask you smart people: Are there any general maintainence parts I should consider replacing? pumps, pulleys, gaskets, ETC? I was wondering about this motor everyone keeps talking about?! Is this EJ22 pretty universal with 1st gen subarus? I have a right side CV joint going out and I was going to run to the junkyard and pull one, what should I be looking for? I am also interested in turboing this beast...anyone have recommendations on where to START? IS it possible to get a NEW one, pull one from a 1st gen? etc...you know more than I...what am I getting into? I will have pictures of this thing as soon as I find a digital camera. Thanks, Greg. Thanks, Greg. with the timing belt you replace waterpump re seal oil pump cam seals main seal tensioner inspect idler pullies thermostat radiator cap then your good for 100,000 miles. There are a few differnt axles for the car, so get it out of the same car. Check a parts store it may be reasonable. Turboing the car. It can be done but much easier to swap in a turbo motor then convert one. You just cant throw a turbo on these things without a lot of exciting things happenening, all bad, Autos dont move fast. nipper
xrturbo
if it is a 92 and you are lookin for junkyard axles you will have to check the diameter of the splines on your outboard shaft, you fall near the change over from small to large. the only thing to look for on a jy axle is that the boots arent toen, other than that they hold up well. i would agree on first checking the price of a new or rebuilt though, normally they can be had for 40-60 bucks. Legacy777
The 90-94 legacy axles should be interchangable.
92blackacy
thanks, I will call first thing in the morning, for a new or rebuilt one..I never priced them. I can get parts for pennies at the junkyards I go to, for I go there often..so I might just do that...now that I know 90-94 are usable. Thanks for the help, Ill post again tomorrow night and let you guys know the progress on the blackacy.
