Silver Lining Of Blowing Head Gasket!

Featured Replies

So now I have a gasket job to start this week-end. I figure this is the perfect time to do the 5 speed tranny swap and dump the 3 speed auto for good!

Question 1: Have you guys had success with pulling a replacement tranny from the Bone Yard? It would be more work and more time consuming, but I do need to go the yard to get a pedal assembly, gear shift, and rear diff anyway. I save money but I take a chance on pulling a dud.

Question 2: How have the RX trannys held up over time. If I buy a pre-used tranny from an engine shop (assuming they can get one) or find one at the yard, should I use this tranny instead of the standard 5 speed hi / lo?

Well that depends, if u want the AWD 5 seeed D/R or the part time 5 speed D/R. The AWD's are harder to find, and there a 3.7 final drive. The part time tranny is a 3.9 final drive, just depends if u want the lower gears or not. They hold up pretty well , strong trannys.

sorry, i hate you... i have a head gasket coming up very soon myself, and i want to ditch the three speed badly... but i do not have the cash and/or time to do so right now

good luck with everything, wish i could be help instead of kibbitz

I'm in the process (long process) of changing careers and just sold my business, so I have a bit of extra $$$$ / time to spend. OK. I'm done rubbing it in . But I have to be careful to make the little windfall last till I get paid for my next job that I don't have yet!

no hate. I was just whining... thats all. ive been waiting for a car with a trans to show up, and its out there now... i already got the trunklid and the TPS off of it, I would love to get the car and frankenstein mine into it or something....

but it aint gonna happen right now!

ob-la-di.
