suebaru
Howdy, I have a 2002 Outback wagon LTD with 57K miles on it. Recently I drove 350 miles and when I got off the freeway, the clutch started alternately feeling like it popped up too high then toward the floor was mushy. As the clutch comes all the way up there's a sort of flap/pop sound like the clutch pedal is a little loose. I got the clutch fluid changed (and the dealer thought that was the problem since it was black). Everything was fine and normal driving in the city. A few weeks later I drove 350 miles again and the same problem - as soon as I exited the freeway and drove on the city streets, too much clutch play. So I conclude this happens when the car is very warm and maybe is the clutch very warm too from the long drive? Any idea what the problem is? Thanks! nipper
Sounds like the slave or master cylinder is starting to go bad. HEat is expnading and softening the seals allowing the fluid to bypass the cups. nipper
cookie
Actually this is pretty common. I changed the slave and hose on mine per the TSB and that was inadaquate. A new master put the car back on track with no furtur problems.
