Sonicfrog
I was getting a quote on a new EJ22 for my 94 wagon. The guy I was talking to said the engines mated to auto trannys have EGR valves, while those with manual trannys do not. Does this sound right to you? Is this also true for EA-82T's, and if so, will that effect the auto to 5 speed tranny swap in my 87 T-Wag? Also, will EJ-22's made for 95 - 2000 (DOHC vs SOHC) Subies fit into the 94 with out modification? PS. Is the EJ-22 a non-interference engine? johnceggleston
ej22 up through and including 1996 are non-interference. ej22 after 1996 are interference. i have read here , but don't know for sure , that 90-94 ej22 do not have egr on the intake manifold. later engines do. i don't know. who does know?? Your '94 motor should be a two exhaust port per head, non EGR motor. The '96 and up ej22s have single exhaust port heads and will not bolt up to your front pipe. So, '95 is as new as you can go without changing exhaust system parts. '95 Automatics have EGR, '95 Manual trans cars do not. The wiring harness and other sundries on the '95 and up motors are completely different from your '94, though you could swap your intake, wiring harness etc on. In the USA, as far as I know, there is no such animal as a DOHC ej22. The EJ22 was SOHC in the states. '97 and up Ej22's are interference, earlier ej22s are not. Good luck, Nathan
