EA82T Throttle Switch

Featured Replies

Hi people.

Can anyone tell me what the 'throttle switch' is/is for?

Not the Throttle Position Sensor but a two wire switch sits just behind the TPS, I can see it on the wiring diagram and its labelled throttle switch.

Pics can be taken if it will help.

If the car is an automatic, then the switch on the diagram is probably the one that sits about the accelerator pedal. When you floor it, a tab on the back of the pedal hits the switch, which triggers the tranny to go into passing gear. I had a tranny that wouldn't go into passing gear, and one of the diagnostic suggestions was to check to se if the switch was working properly.

OK.. but this switch is on the throttle body and the colours of the wires match the colours on the diagram labelled throttle switch (although it is an auto :D)

anyone else know what this is??

Its a switch that tells the ECU when the throttle is closed. I dunno what the ECU does with this though.

I am not sure what it's function is, but I have heard it refered to as the Idle Switch. Not all TPS's have them. My 89 gl-10 turbo has it.

Sounds like the idle switch to me, too. On my 91 it's actually part of the TPS.

Thanks everyone, I think I can just ignore this switch when installing my Megasquirt system, the 3 wire TPS will be fine on its own I hope
