  1. thanks, obvious now that you've said it - T off, I'll have to take it to a garage anyhow, just can't stand not knowing myself what/how to do it. Thanks again - pressure at the rail - place to start.
  2. after the regulator or just the raw pump pressure? can you advise the normal range?
  3. thanks, yes, I think I have it in a decent position - like the stock position, wide bore pipe and short from tank to pump, it's the awful noise that's coming from it that is worrying me.
  4. Hi everyone. Since swapping my fuel tank for a new one (and relocating it) the fuel pump has developed (getting worse and worse) a loud vibrating grinding type noise and the car is really hard to start and runs like crap. Trying to find someone who can check the fuel pressure tomorrow, I'm away from home and have no tools! Any ideas about a systematic approach to sorting this please?
  5. yes of course - wouldn't make sense if it didn't pump out through the thermostat - thank you.
  6. Hi, I'm boosting the coolant flow with and electric pump on an EA82T engine and need to be sure that I set it up in the correct direction! Can anyone tell me which way the coolant flows, which of the two pipes to the rad are in/out so to speak? The engine isn't actually running right now so I cant just test it myself. Thanks
  7. Thanks for that. Those replacement injectors sounds great and a decent price too.
  8. Hi, Searched and found that XT injector flow rates are 185cc, but just wondering what the L series EA82T injector flow rates are? About to take my megasquirted EA82T in a VW based replica car to a rolling road for tuning and it would help to know the injector flow rate - thanks a million if anyone can tell me.
  9. thanks both, yep deffo low for MS purposes (under 4ohms). Thanks, I didnt know it was just a matter of measuring with a multimeter! not using the original harness so the resistors are gone, could get some to replace but the MS unit should be able to manage the injectors straight off. thanks again.
  10. btw I found the one thread that is a bit confusing, but it seems that the stock inj are 2-3ohms which for the sake of MS is 'low' impedance. can someone confirm?
  11. HI can anyone tell me whether the EA82T injectors are high or low impedence (for the sake of a Megasquirt installation).
  12. I've drawn out the piston positions, their movements and stroke function at the beggining of each stroke and it has cleared it all up in my mind. and it matches up with mikeshoup's post. So now I think it is clearer, the spark is just BTDC so firing 1 and 2 together will spark 1 on power stroke and 2 just BEFORE it starts intaking for the intake stroke, so as daeron said, it should be ok, my worry is that the intake fuel might get lit by the wasted spark but otherwise I think 1,2 and 3,4 wasted spark is the way. Confirmed by the EJ's working this way, I think that's decided unless anyone has any doubts, advice to offer, next weekend I'll be attempting the start up so speak now or forever....
  13. just used this to try and get clearer in my mind how the 4 stroke works: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Four-stroke_cycle if anyone has a good flat 4 specific link then please let me know.
  14. ok so 1-2 and 3-4 is probably best - if that 's how the EJs run (is the firing order on EA the same as EJ ?) THen I've got the issue of spark timing to work out! The MS can be programed to fire at wahtever angle - based on the crank trigger wheel sensor. Does anyone have a link to a good explanation of how the engine rotates and how the intake/exhaust etc all works, I think I remember seeing technical data in the manual that gave firing angle for each cylinder, I guess I should be able to use that but I need more of a firm understanding of waht actually happens as the engine turns - basic stuff but it always seems to confuse me -not hard!! thanks for advice so far.
  15. I'm installing a megasquirt system with the MSnSExtra code with direct coil driving (from a 36-1 toothed wheel welded to the crank pulley) on my EA82T. I've got in a bit of a muddle over the firing order and the cylinder rotation, basically with the wasted spark system two plugs spark together at a time, obviously one is on combustion whilst the other is while the piston is down near the crank. So which two cylinders do I wire up to fire together? I'm managed to get myself confused and now I cant think straght about it! If anyone has already done the MSnSExtra with wasted spark I'd be SOoooooo grateful if you would share your wiring setup and even send me a copy of you msq file? here's hoping
  16. can anyone tell me which cylinder is which, I think numbre one is front left facing the engine head on but dont know about the other three?
  17. Cool, I know how the AAV works and if that's it then I can just connect that up and it'll be good but I thought maybe that there was something else to help tick over when the engine dips under load e.g when the clutch bites. Anyway I think it's going to run without an extra idle control so this is just fine tuning stuff. thanks for the reply.
  18. Hi all you megasquirters, My megasquirt (running Extra code) wiring diagram has an idle valve on it (with a choice for either 2 or 3 wire valve). Does the EA82T have an idle valve, if so where is it and what's the wiring like for it? I think there is a FICD solenoid to increase tickover when AC is on but I can find any reference to an idle valve in any of my subaru stuff. any help would be most welcome. thanks,
  19. Thanks everyone, I think I can just ignore this switch when installing my Megasquirt system, the 3 wire TPS will be fine on its own I hope
  20. OK.. but this switch is on the throttle body and the colours of the wires match the colours on the diagram labelled throttle switch (although it is an auto ) anyone else know what this is??
  21. Hi people. Can anyone tell me what the 'throttle switch' is/is for? Not the Throttle Position Sensor but a two wire switch sits just behind the TPS, I can see it on the wiring diagram and its labelled throttle switch. Pics can be taken if it will help. :)Habib
  22. I'll probably try it with the AAV and see how it goes then. Need some time to get things installed and experiment.
  23. Pressuming the throttle doesnt close ALL the way, I get that the AAV is to provide air into the intake bypassing the throttle position sensor and throttle valve for cold starting but I'm thinking I can compensate for cold idleing through the Megasquirt software and get rid of this variable bypass route with or without a stable fixed -small amount of bypass -as has been suggested before to fit a 2mm hole in an otherwise permenantly open pipe between pre and post throttle valve.
