  1. thanks again, I'll get the right stuff for the protective link from a wiring place.
  2. So to make a fusable link I just connect a piece of the right size wire in serries with the main cable - cool. I think! Then for the "T" shape spades, the down piece (marked L on the alt) (I dont have wires to confirm) goes to dash light top of "T" (marked S) again no wire to confirm color, goes to battery ??via ignition switch? thanks again I think I'm getting the picture and will be able to put it together with this info if I've understood it properly.
  3. thanks, gets me started with the big stuff any idea what size fuse for the alt-battery lead? Anyone else tell me what the two spade connectors are for? (they are arranged perpendicular to each other in a single connector type thing)
  4. Hi, EA82T 1) Does anyone know if the coil bracket itself needs to be earthed? i.e. do the bolts holding the brackets need to connect to the metal of the body? 2) Can anyone tell me what to connect the alternator up to: -doing a lot of wiring from scratch and I cant work out what the two spade wires on the back of the alt are for -I'm assuming one is Ign switched +'ve and one ??warning light but cant tell which is which! Does the alt ground through the body or does the screw hole marked with the Earth symbol actually need wiring to -'Ve? Assuming also that the big connector marked BAT is the main direct to batery +'Ve connection. Am I missing anything? thanks a million for any help.
  5. Cool -its going to look ver neat under the bonnet without all the gubbins Plus with the disty gone its gonna look even smoother! Sorry didnt mean to highjack with megasquirt stuff, I'll start a dedicated thread when I'm closer to actually doing it.
  6. One of my subbie projects is going to be a EA82T engine run by megasquirt including spark. Gonna get rid of everything I can - evaporation system, EGR, whatever I can, see if the megasquirt can manage the engine alone (with a knock detector). So am totally interested in people's views on what neccassary and what isnt. the thread: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=53477 covers some of the issues.
  7. This is the funniest thing ever -especially like the rat sitting on the air box -like he's saying "yeh wadda you want!" moth balls, how about a cat still if that happened to me I wouldnt be laughing so much! crazy!
  8. guess a lot of you guys have already seen this but I'm going to have a go, looks good and cheap to try. its a long thead but lots of info and feedback on tecnique. http://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads...=0&fpart=1&vc=1
  9. Got a turbo EFI intake manifold, I think you are after a pic of the carb model but just incase -here you go: Havnt got a carb intake so cant help you if its that you want. Good luck.
  10. Thanks -Got it worked out now the dash gauge is deffo on the Tstat housing and the coolant temp sensor (for the ECU) further back where 'Subaru Jim Maple Ridge' said. What I really wanted to know was what thread the dash gauge is -but dont really need to know anymore, cause I know Its way bigger than M10 (I was going to replace it with a VDO unit) anyway, havnt got a pic of the dash sender but if you face the engine -look at the Tstat housing on the right face right at the bottom, poking out to the right (its in the bottom half not the top half that comes off when you unbolt). Single wire. 17mm nut-sensor.
  11. Hi all, anyone tell me what thread the temp gauge sensor is - assuming the sensor poking through the bottom of the thermostat housing is the gauge sender (not the coolant temp sensor for ECU). thanks forgot to mention -EA82T
  12. made the same mistake myself -funny how you can do something silly without thinking it through when you're tired. Testing my thermostat today, opens up nicely when hot but doesnt close fully when cold -there's a 2-3mm gap and that's where it stops - is this normal or should it close all the way?
  13. thanks, its a friends car so will tell him what to try. so what is the difference between 'ECS' and 'Check Engine'?
  14. Hi, a mate has a XT and he has just started her up to keep things ticking over nicely over the winter (not a daily driver) and the car is running ok but a light on the dash 'ECS' has shown up. Cant find any info on this light or what it means. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
  15. Thinkning back to my EA82T motor it had 2 water temp senders, one for the dash and one for the ECU. Can someone tell me where the ECU's coolant temp sender is on the EJ20? I can see one sensor on the intake manifold -looks like a waterway -almost directly in front of you facing the engine slightly to the Left placed facing straight down towards the ground.
  16. thanks for advice. noticed today that the power loss when cold is complete not just bad running, in order to get any power back I have to take my foot off the gas and then re-apply some gas SLOWLY and gently to get it to build up -all-be-it in a spluttery way, still sound like a coolant sensor? Guess I'll probably replace it anyway and see what difference it makes. Isnt it possible to test the sender with a multimeter?
  17. Before I start spending more money any views on what might be causing a general rough running, and spluttery low power when the engine is cold? I'm hoping its just a case of bad spark leads but would welcome any opinions before I start buying parts that I dont need (again) its a EJ20, legacy, 1993 UK model. thanks for any advice.
  18. Is it definately coming from the front of the engine? Could be the pilot bearing in the flywheel but the sound would come from bell housing.
  19. Got a clutch kit but it only came with the three parts -throw out bearing, clutch plate and housing. No aligment tool and no pilot bearing! Can you give me a web site that sell these seperately? thanks
  20. thanks, only thing is cant seem to find anyone who sells the little blights! any recomendations -perhaps the main stealer? thanks again, habib
