  1. OK so my disty -the cap is held on with screws and has 4 wires comming out of it (a plastic thing on its side) -(excluding the HT leads!): there are two connectors, one round, one flat(single wire) and then two loose wires BW and Y.: but I do have another disty: this one doesnt have a plstic ting on its side and has no vacum advance, aslo it has a single connector. The Air Meter is a metal one with a flap inside. And the ECU I'm hoping will run all this -at least the ignt side of things (so I can get a MegaSquirt hooked up) is a 3 plug type: I'm getting closer and closer to working the whole system out!
  2. Hi, I've done my fair share of stupid question asking and its all good - its easy to pick things up quickly and it wont be long before we'll be able to answer a few questions and for my next stupid question: what does RTFM mean?!??
  3. Sounds good, if someone can try this it would be a nicer solution than the ford cog, gues you'd still need the other ignt bits though -from the ford I guess. I'm a long way off EDIS but will look at in more detail when I get there if noone else has. habib
  4. hee hee -that would also be my approach but I've got this engine from someone else and the loom/ecu from someone else (different) and it was all cut up in to pieces Still someone must know what these are, once I've id'd everything I'll be able to patch things together I think -at least enough to eventually run MegaSquirt but I need a certain amount of ecu action to run the ignition before I go EDIS. (it would help if I had the right wiring diagram for the year but I think the loom and the engine I have are from two different years --ahh the joys! It'l be all the more satisfying when it goes
  5. Hi again, In my quest to get these two engines going I seek further advice from you all and your amazing knowledge of the EA side of the force! The fuel rail is broken on one of my engines in the circle on the piccie, that pipe is not present on any other EA82 I've seen! It goes to a T with the throtle body and then to the canister thingy, other engines I've seen just go from cannister to throtle body but not on to this point (where mine is broken). Does anyone know what will happen if I just block this off? Also any chance someone can tell me where the three fuel pipes labelled 1,2,3 go - I know which one goes to the filter on in the engine bay but where do they all need to go after that? Finally, can anyone ID these parts for me -trying to build a loom to run this engine should be easy but I am finding it very difficult for some reason (Lord help me when it comes to fitting a megasquirt system!!) thanks a million again habib
  6. Reading some of the megamanual -it's starting to take shape in my head! So an added IAT (where have people put this -any chance of a Pic posted)sensor & other sensors on the EA engine (minus air flow meter) will run the fuel injector side of things Prepared kit from RS to start, wire it up, then fire it up! Sounds very do-able! Laptop refinements then to compensate for the use of subaru's water and other sensors & all the other tuning aspects of cold start, acel decel, etc. One wire O2 sensor should do as it must stay pretty hot placed immediately after the turbo or have people gone for preheated O2 sensors or even wide band? I noticed that you can buy a pre built timing pulley for the EDIS system to fit a Type 1 VW engine (the ford cog is pressed onto a Scat timing pullley) if htere was sufficient demand I'm sure someone would make a similar pulley for the EA -that would take the tricky fabrication out of the ignt set up -anyone interested? enough thread hijacking for now!
  7. will the MS system use the stock sensors on the EA82T or do you have to add extra, & if you're not using EDIS at first then I gues the subaru ECU has to stay and continue running the ignt so kind of dual control -doesnt this confuse the subaru ECU and mess things up? downloaded the megamanual -its gotta be the way to go- just need to understand it all a bit better first

  9. I know it shouldnt be a big deal and I thought if I put my mind to it I would be able to do it but all the wires and all the plugs on the EA82T that I have are confusing me -especially because I dont seem to be able to find a wiring diagram that matches properly -probably because I'm using an ecu and from a different year to the motor -I think I will post a seperate thread asking for help with this. as for the ej18 carb - I found a good priced motor and got it so for my next project I will probably go that way -but you never know if I manage to sort the EFI control out on the EA82T then I may go to EFI on the EJ engine too -could always sell the EJ18 on.
  10. Does it also look like this conversion has ditched the fuel rail cannister thingy? Or is it tucked away somewhere else?
  11. must be 33 -my mistake, learning all the time
  12. Yep -putting one EA82T in a 356 Speedster replica and one in a Karmann Ghia, I love these engines -Its a shame almost all the L series cars in the UK have now rusted away - I'm running a legacy day to day with a EJ20 (not as cool by any stretch). Don't need more than a stock ECU (If I can figure out the wiring) in the 356 but would love to get MS'ed on the Ghia - I will be running an on board PC in the car too so will be able to tune/map on the go! Bit daunting though all especially the physical fabrication of a timing wheel for the ingt system etc -still sure if I put my mind to it I'll be able to do it with a pre soldered kit.
  13. thanks, started reading them already looks good, arhhhg just spent 2 days removing the loom, ecu and snesors etc from a rusty old wagon to run my EA82T - still I havnt actually worked out where all the wires need to go yet so could save myself a load of hassle and get a mappable system Hmmmm more power and control! --more to read first
  14. Mega Squirt -you say (in the style of Smithers -Simpsons) So are you telling me that I could do away with all my old ECU stuff and control the injectors/ignt with an aftermarket product - time to search the forums me thinks
  15. Does it look like the MAF is not there on this conversion? If so -how is it running -can the ecu cope without it? I thought air flow/mass was one of the very essential pieces of info for EFI. I'm beggining to wonder what I can do without for my own transplant as the engine managment wiring is turning out to be pretty difficult to do!
  16. I'm planning on starting my EA82T on the bench but dont know how to handle the three fuel pipes - not enrtirely sure where they go (one return, one from the pump but ???the third!) I have the starter on a cut up old tranny bell, works well exhaust -patching together a make shift short piece as you've suggested. all in all a good idea I think especially if you're like to use the setup more than once.
  17. Great -all thanks again, mine must be working as my boost light does work so all this worry for nothing!! Anyhow, I'm learning fast and I like to know what everything is for! thanks again, this board rocks!
  18. thanks -good to know! what about if it's faulty? can the car run without it -properly, if the tubes are blocked off?
  19. yehhhhh did it. one small step for..... ok anyway, anyone know what that part is?
  20. touch of trouble getting the image in -why cant I ever remember how to dot his! ok try again: arrghhh dont know what I'm doing wrong
  21. http://putfile.com/pic.php?pic=6/15916425267.jpg&s=x4 Hi, determinded to get this beast going - almost there but there are now one or two parts that I am not sure about and dont want to fire her up until I know everything I can do is done. Can anyone tell me what this part is and what it does -what would be the result of it being faulty etc, thanks a million
  22. There is a custom car company in the USA making prosche 356 replica cars with subaru engine and transmission (mid engine), see if I can find the link...yep: http://www.specialtyauto.com/ think they just built a new tube frame chassis to recieve the running gear though - wish I could afford one!
  23. thanks for pointing this out and I've now found a carburetted 1.8 legacy engine so should be in for a much easier wiring experience! .....so am I right in thinking that the ej18 is the same bolt pattern/flywheel as all the other ejs 2L up to 3.5L but that the EA82 OHC is different and so is the EA81 OHV? thanks again - you guys have saved me a potential wiring nightmaire -having already encountered one I'm very happy to avoid another!
  24. thanks -sounds do-able one way or another. shame it involves drilling and plate making but not the end of the world
