hi, anyone know if the bolt pattern is the same for the EA82T and the 16valve injection 1.8L legacy engine? In fact does anyone know if the 1.8L 16 valve fuel injected engine is an EA82 block as I've never heard of ??EJ18?? thanks for any info

I'm going with no covers -no inner covers either -so can get to the oil pump etc really easily Am I right in thinking that the groove between the cover and the head block is where the hole in the sprocket should line up with (in the abscence of the notch in the inner cover)? habib

hee hee - probably just make room for it and fit it -lets face it -Subaru put it there for a reason -who am I to meddle!
-
Yeh.. emmissions not a real issue as it'l be running in an officially old car that wont have emmission regulation but then again I dont really want to waste fuel so may have to find space for it.

Dude, that is a very pretty sight Beautiful.... Give me time obe-skip-one, I have much to learn of the driving force! btw can you tell me what the cannister thing is in the bottom left of this picture with the 4 tubes that go to the rail, is it important??
-
Skip, thanks one hell of a lot - that is class info Should be able to work it out now. thanks again

A 356 speedster! and a buggy once that is done - I have three EA82T engines, (two ecu & sensors etc) so going to use two in projects and one for spares so should be able to pump up the boost and see what happens with the safety of spare heads etc Should be a lot of fun -I love this site, especially the performace upgrades pages that got recently compiled -it rocks -thing is L series are getting dam rare in the UK now as their body work got to rusty -got a Legacy for daily driving though (converted to LPG) not as good as L series but less rusty! anyway -off to find a flywheel so I can fit the belts on this baby.
-
dont get your hopes up ---- this is a flywheel that has been welded together to allow me to join the EA82 to a vw tranny - sorryto get you excited about it! Although I'm sure there are places who could lighten a flywheel acurately.
-
thnig is its an aftermarket flywheel - definately no belt marks -there is a 0degree and 20degree mark but no three marks. I might have to get another flywheel and mark this one in the right place somehow -ahhhhhg why is nothing ever as easy as I think its going to be!! Thought maybe I could work it out by feeling no 1 piston reaching its top point or something! -wishful thinking? What about the distributor setting? thanks for comments so far

Hi, I've got a EA82t but a flywheel with no timing marks - is there another way of working out where the timing is so that I can fit the cam belts in the right place. -and what about the dizzy - can anyone tell me how to set it on the right place -as a rough static time setting - I've had a look at Miles Fox how-to guides -brilliant but nothing on the dizzy setting. thanks for any advice -I'm desperate to get this lovely motor started!

EA82, 240k, bent valves, replace?
habib99 replied to lebnjay's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I agree that ignorance is not ideal but not a crime (find a better mechanic or do it yourself) but this guy sounds much more suspect. What's people's views on changing pullies when the bolts are done?? Can you get away with just the belts or do the pullies need renewing too? -
Just recently my 2L legacy has started to completely drop power (rev counter instantly drops down too) when trying to accelerate after the first start up of the day -once warmed up and for the rest of the day it is ok but after a night of sitting out the problem recurs. The car has a LPG conversion but even when it is switched off completely (just running on unleaded) it still happens. ohh yeh and as it happens -it sounds like there is a click -like a relay coming from under the steering column. Anyone with any ideas??

Are you fitting the carb to a turbo EA82? If you are I would love to know how the carb copes with the forced induction. If not -maybe I should start a different thread on the subject
-
I bought a brace contraption to hold the frame horns to the top of the shock absorber towerv -to prevent wheel hop, but was planning to just it hang on the tranny -as the 1600 does thought I'd get away with it - but I think I get you -its the twisting that is an issue -wont take much to knock up a rear brace/support I suppose -just another thing to do then again I've got a beefed tranny coming so should take the power ok.

I'm just north of newport As it happens -im putting a EA82t in a vw based kit -356 replica. Have you got the ecu and plugs to fit it and the other sensors that are on the inner wing? I dont think they're all vital but good to have them. I've got a wiring diagram with some bits crossed out which I apparantly 'dont need' but ?? I havnt done it yet and am nervous about the wiring. If you decide to go EJ then fancy flogging the EA to me? If you stick with the EA then I'm sure we can help each other out with wiring as we go along. Did you get any good advice from dneufeld -if so anychance of posting it to me? hc@behi.wanadoo.co.uk cheers. otherwise -you're welcome to come over anytime to check out the project -I wouldnt mind seeing yours at some point. see around, Habib oh yeh -good result Yesturday -my voice is a bit sore now though. oh yeh and glad to hear that without gubbins its more like the 140 mark

are you in Wales? as in UK? I live in S.E. Wales.
-
I thought the EA82t put out around 140hp stock?? and there seems to be a healthy EA - support / mod section on this board too. Still you need the wiring unless you're willing to spend another $800 on aftermarket engine managment. For a bug - the EJ is significantly heavier and will make the front end light - whereas the EA is little more than a 1600 air cooled weight wise.
-
ok so I'm at the bottom of a long list (that'l teach me not to leave it so long between looking at the board!) This is EA82T? I definately need: Complete engine management system -wiring/ecu/the sensors that are used on the inner wing/airflowmeter etc -wiring with all the plugs attached. If you can be bothered to disconnet it all carefully then I am willing pay for it & for posting to the UK. Shame you gotta loose your car but looks like loads of people will make good use of it! Good luck -let me know if you wanna sell those bits.

EA82T cam belts Gate numbers?
habib99 replied to habib99's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
thanks that link is good - now at least I know what the guy is asking for! probably get them from someone else cause he didnt sound to good and I dont want crappy belts! -
Hi, a supplier of belts is asking me for the 'Gate part number' for the cam belts on a 89 EA82turbo. I am not familiar with the Gate term and dont know how to find out this number. (The supplier is in the USA. I am in the UK) Anyone know the number for these belts? or if someone in the US can tell me which models the 1.8 turbo was used in then I'd be most thankful. Are all EA82 engines the same -year to year?
-
good thinking, gonna have a look tommorow at the fusebox!
-
just ordered that book -Is there a difference in the wiring for the US / UK / Japan models? I know Ca seems to get its own mention for everything because of emmissions? but otherwise I'm hoping that its all the same internationally.
-
funnily enough I havent managed to find a haynes manual for the OHC L series, loads around for OHV. I hope I've understood that right! I'll look harder for a hyanes in that case, maybe a special order. still if someone comes accross the one I need feel free to email a copy/post a link.
-
I think its around 88/89 but cant be sure. Do you mean constant power to red and then an ignt switch power to the switch? trouble is with my stuff is that I got the ECU, sensors and wires in bits i.e. the loom has been cut etc. The engine mounted bits are intact but the rest in pieces. So ideally with a diagram I could follow the wires and make sure they connect to what they should do. Someone has offered to scan a diagram on the 'older subs' page so hopefully it will be the one but if you have a link to a web page then I'd be most graetfull....or if you have a physical diagram for the righ year then again would be very thankful if you'd send a scan.
-
thanks for the offer - I would be greatfull for a scan. I've tried that manual site -it is cool but the wiring diagram is to low res and you cant read the colour codes on the wires. The rest of the manual is amazing though. Do you mean its for US side LHD or UK/Aus RHD? I dont know if it makes any difference anyhow. my email address is: hc AT behi.wanadoo.co.uk thanks a million! If all else fails I might have to fork out the 20 bucks !! Habib
