'92 loyale alt. flicker

Featured Replies

I put a new napa alt. in my loyale now my dash/head lights flicker. idle speed does not make a diff. bad alternator? or should i try putting a charger on the batt. over night.

Battery slowly dying? My wifes windstar, the crap battery slowly over worked and killed a 6 month old altenator.just had an identical flicker, battery still worked soso(before we noticed)and always started and ran good.but, slow dying battery caused it all.

hope it helps.

How did the old one go out? Could have slightly melted some of the wires going to the alt. Did the battery go dead? If it did, did you fully charge the battery before putting the alt on?

Fusible links can be half bad.. the one under the cap that is stamped "1.25" was my half bad one after a new alternator. verify with guage similar to test, if it works, I don't know where you can get the numbers oem is after. :) any wire anywhere can do it, but targetting grounds and things designed to burn like fues is best start

havnt tried to charge it yet, I did run off just the batt. for about two weeks. I'll look for f-links and what not when I get back from vacation.

It sounds to me that there may be a problem with the alternator. Some of the diodes may be bad and causing this problem. A load test will tell you what needs to be done for sure.
