November 14, 200322 yr On my '92 Loyale, the fuel damper (underneath the car, on the RHS, in front of the tank) appears to be rusted and is leaking. The dealer wants CDN$91 (I know, that's about US$9.10). since there are two additional fuel dampers on the line (according to the underwear manual and the stealer) can I replace the damper with a $.03 piece of copper or steel tubing, or is it better to get the real deal?
November 14, 200322 yr I can only tell you that during an emergency situation where the damper next to the fuel pump was spewing gas everywhere I found it necessary to eliminate it and replaced it with a piece of 3/8 inside fuel line and clamps. There is another damper up near the SPFI after the filter. From what I've read their function is to help eliminate surges of pressure from the pump. I've had no problems since removing it and had almost forgotten about it until I saw your post.
November 14, 200322 yr Author Many thanks for the quick response, Cliff! You just saved me about $105.00. Ain't this board great?
November 15, 200322 yr I too eliminated that pesky fuel damper on my 90 Loyale just last month due to rust and leakage. The car runs fine and obviously will get better gas mileage having lightened the car by about 2 ounces of metal:D
