I have a sloppy distributor shaft on my 1986 GL 1.8 4x4 hatch that I believe is screwing up my engine on cold days, and I don't feel like paying $200+ at the local parts shop for a new one. What years, models, and engines are interchangeable with my Hitachi unit?

 

The symptoms of my problem include physical damage to the rotor, intermittant awful running on cold days after start up while moving, and an overzealous tach while the engine is acting funky.

Any 4WD EA81 will interchange. The 2WD's have a ND disty - that will work also if you change to the ND coil.
