December 21, 200619 yr My SPFI EA82 just failed emissions (hydrocarbons). It has a regular miss and fails the dollar bill test at the tail pipe. No CEL. New plugs, wires, disty cap, rotor, and fuel pump. Compression at cylinders 2,3, and 4 is about 180. Cylinder 1 is 167. Does that sound like a burnt valve on # 1? Any ideas or suggestions are welcome.
December 21, 200619 yr Could just be a dirty valve, a bad valve would give you no compression. Try some seafoam through a vacuum line, if theres carbon in there it will absorb fuel and make your HC's go up.
December 21, 200619 yr I agree. A dirty valve or a bad vave guide could cause that. Hook up a vacuum guage and watch it at idle. If it bounces instead of reading steady, bad valve guide. Along with the Seafoam, try a can of BG 44K. It's the best additive out there for reducing/removing carbon.
December 21, 200619 yr Author Thaks, guys Seafoam is easily obtained , but I'm not familiar with BG 44K - where can you get it?
