Changing a Knock Sensor 2000 OBW

Featured Replies

I know where it goes, and that I shouldn't over-tighten the sensor.

But...How do I tell how much is to much? A torque wrench? or just guess?

I don't want to break it.

Thanks

The proper torque is 17.4+/-2.2 ft*lb(f). The only way I know of to measure that torque properly is with a torque wrench. And note that "The extraction area of the knock sensor cord must be positioned at a 45 °angle relative to the engine rear."

"The extraction area of the knock sensor cord must be positioned at a 45 °angle relative to the engine rear."

Huh? Anyone able to translate that into English?

The transmission and the knock sensor wire have to make a T. Well, sort of. Not quite like a T..like mid way.

                W | i / | T r / | r e / | a | n | n | y

Yah I think something might have gotten lost in the translation there. Maybe this pic will help:knock00-45-1.gif

Thanks, guys. The logic and the intent are crystal clear--but the writing!!!

Last time I tried to position an area I couldn't get a grasp on it 'cause it kept slipping through my fingers!

I just replaced the sensor on my 98 OBW with 2.5 and didnt know anything about the wiring issue. I did for the most part reattach it how it originally was. Seems to be working. Check engine light is gone and has power again.:):headbang:
