November 18, 200322 yr I went to a oil change place to get it done and they printed out a sheet with the lube specs to use. Well it read that my 82 brat man. trans used GL-5, 85W. They dont carry that. They do have GL-5, 80W or GL-5, 90. Can one of those be used???? Should I go some were else or bring them the gear oil I need. Any help would be apreciated. Thanks............
November 18, 200322 yr 80w-90, 75w-90, or just about anything in that range will work fine. If you live in a colder climate, go with a lighter weight, or if you live in a warmer climate, go with a heavier weight.
November 18, 200322 yr I just did this in my 5-speed 87 gl-10, and I used the Valvoline 80W90 Synthetic Blend (Wisconsin winter). Can you turn a wrench ? I know you have a different make of Subaru but it was really easy on mine and I am no expert. The toughest part was minimizing spill when filling it back up. If you can find the drain plug and jack it up a little you should be able to do attempt this yourself. The plug on mine was 22 or 24mm though and I had to buy a new socket I didn't have. I did spill some on the turbo and stuff really smelled when burned! Good Luck, Chad L 87 gl-10 Turbo
November 19, 200322 yr Author I was thinking of doing it myself. Is the drain plug in the middle bottom of the front part of the trans. Ive seen a bolt there and it looks like a drain plug. I take it its as easy as changing your oil. Thanks...............
