Anybody near Costa Mesa CALI want a 86 3at coupe? $125

Featured Replies

well, i bought this car and was in the process of having it shipped, but the shipping company gave me the tough way to go until i just said heck with it. went out and bought a 96 impreza today, and cancelled everything with the coupe.

its a nice little car. 86 carbed ea82, 3at fwd, engine runs but ticks (lifters probly) 93k original miles, cream colored, clean interior.

anybody near Orange Ave in Costa Mesa CALI interested? i paid for it already, but i think i might get a refund from the lady. it was $125 for it. she has the clean title in hand.

heres a pic:

I am interested! Give me some more info. That would make a great parts car for my 85 GL-10. It is the same color too. Still about a 4 hour drive though.

i can answer most questions about it, just let me know what you'd like to know.

its a rust free gl model coupe. 93k original, 2 owners. motor ticks, so the lady brought it to her mechanic and told her it'd be $1500 to replace the motor. (i bet seafoam would fix it right up) my bet is that its just your typical subaru lifter or valve tick, and that the mechanic just saw an oppurtunity to make some big money off an unexpecting lady.

Could just be the oil pump seal leaking too. I need Name, address, phone #. You know that stuff. Long as it will run onto my trailer. That is all that matters to me.

cool, i`ll pm you her info

she did refund me the money now, so i guess she'll be taking the $125 for it

You might be able to persuade me to go look at it if necessary. I also know of an 84 Wagon for $200 in Irvine. Let's meet when you come down.

the lady said she haden't heard from subieguy as of 2 days ago, so as far as i know, its still there.....

Yeah I don't know if I feel like driving that far just for another parts car. Think I will let this one slide.

Wonderful! Can I get the info? I can pick it up on Friday. Costa Mesa is maybe 30 minutes from me... so no big deal here.

Hope it's registered... I at least want to drive it home... 20-30 miles :)

pm'd you the lady's info, let me know how you make out.....

Well, I went to go take a look at the coupe.

I bought it instantly.

The interior is immaculate, the exterior is darn near immaculate...

It ticked for the 15 minute drive to AutoZone to buy some of my favorite stuff (MMO) and threw it on in there... and it hasnt ticked anymore... i'm going to tune it up next week, it needs it bad. oh yeah, and the 3AT "kicks" a bit... and CEL is on. Havent checked the codes, but at the moment it seems ok even with it on there.

So... I'm on the road in a VERY nice Subie for less than half of a paycheck!

Thank you Jon for hooking me up, and thanks Richard for not buying it.. haha

glad to hear it worked out for you!! that was quick

my name is Jon btw:)

please post some more pics, i`d like to see what i missed. the lady seemed very honest

Well Lucy called you Andrew, sorry Jon

Um... I cant snap pics right now its too dark, plus the thing is diiiirty... but i promise i will either tomorrow or saturday... once i wash it and have some time.

But, the whole car's fine for the most part... brand new v-belts :) and theres NO dents on it, the bumpers are a tad tweaked, but eh what can you ask for $125?

Um... yeah pretty quick, she was only 30 mins away, and I bought it immediately, it's like my old red GL... only nicer. i had to have it!

anyways, ill post pics when possible...

gary

Glad to hear it went to a good home and somebody who will take care of it.:headbang:

congrats.

Hey if you want to make it 4wd, I have a FT d/r tranny, that we can slap in there. You will need to find a 3.7 rear tranny though as I am keeping the LSD unit for myself.

come to my BBQ. See it in the meet and greet forum.

congrats.

Thanks Bosco, I'll look into the rear end... I have a crummy 3AT right now

And I'll go to your BBQ as long as I'm not working.

Here's pics, by the way:

looks clean:slobber:

buff that thing out, and brighten up those wheels with some silver paint and that thing will look great. maybe some factory mudflaps too.

i had it set in my mind that this would be the car i`d do an ej22 swap in to. ej22 w/ a 5sp fwd, it would be a sleeper:burnout:

im thinking differently...

i wanna keep the ea82 the way it is... it's nice to not get speeding tickets, plus eh, it's a baby, ill consider engine swap once i get some miles on her...

the paint buffed out real nice in one section... ive been under the weather lately, washing it took a lot of effort itself. once im feeling better i'm going to take a DA with a buffer attachment, polishing compound, and go crazy!

by the way, if she said it was rust free.... wrooong. it has the darn windshield area rust (all of mine had, or have it) and a couple paint chips... i wonder if i can find touchup paint for it... and the bumpers are tweaked  but she's still a beauty.

i do want to lower it (undecided how much) throw a 5 lug swap on and add WRX wheels....put RX ground effects.... factory fogs and mudflaps... thats it :)
