Resetting Check engine light

Featured Replies

My check engine light went on. Gas cap is tight. Just had the 90,000 mile service done. Battery was replaced, I've read that you have to reset CEL after replacing battery on some cars, figured it was a good "punt" regardless.

Just can't find how to do reset the check engine light however. Any insight woudl be grand!

JE, you will need a code reader tool

After reading the code that caused the CEL

then clear it with the tool.

Most Autozones stores will do this service for free.

Hope this helps.

Yes even basic scan tools should be able to reset the MIL/CEL. But optimally you want to read the code(s) first so you'll know why the light is on.
