Conversion..MPFI into a Carb question??

Featured Replies

when replacing a carbed car(manual) with a turboed mpfi(auto)...just wondering if the conversion would be similar to the spfi conversion which I am familiar with(manual tranny to manaul) ..also, hopeing to make it as basic as possilible with no digi gauges etc...I believe the motor support member and cat will have to be used along with maybe the radiator

Haven't done it myself, but I've looked into it, and it's very similar to doing the SPFI conversion on a carbed car. You're basically swapping the whole engine wiring harness. For the gauges, you should be able to hook up your oil pressure and coolant temp wires with no trouble.

The engine crossmemeber apparently has a cutout for the turbo exhaust, or you can cut your existing crossmember. I would use a two-row radiator for the turbo engine.

Its a bit more involved. SPFI swap you don't need to swap entire engines.

Need the Turbo cross member so the crossover pipe can clear. (could cut the existing cross member, then reinforce it, but the cross member is easy to remove)

Need the Turbo exhaust up to the rear cat. Rear cat and back are close enough to the same.

Need to use the Turbo engine with most everything attached. Can reuse your accessories (alt, p/s, A/C comp, etc)

Need the Turbo engine harness and ECU.

SPFI swap you don't need to swap entire engines.

I had assumed that was taken as a given.
