November 20, 200322 yr So I have a clunk coming from my steering gear.. Just wondering what I'm going to need to replace, and if anyone has any good shortcuts to pulling the steering gear..
November 20, 200322 yr many clunks can disguise themselves.... frequently balljoints, or top bearings of the strut can make sounds when worn out.. also, i think the rack has an adjustment, most do, which might solve that clunk, but i would have a real good look at the other junk under there too..
November 20, 200322 yr DOH sorry, other parts include, ball joints, inner and outer tie rod ends, strut top bearing, the u-joint on the steering column also sometimes croaks really helps if you find someone to oscillate the wheel while you look/feel for the loose part(s).
November 20, 200322 yr ...and torsion bar bushings. Thanks subu luvr, i also have a clunk and can use some help in completing my list of possible causes.
November 20, 200322 yr thanks for the list of stuff to look at... i have a clunk in my hatch whenever i turn.. sounds just like a tire is hittin the fender.. but i "fixed" the fenders so i know thats not the case.. just can't seem to figure out what it is..
