Ok I am converting my Brat to a promo car. For xs energy drink. called the xsbrat anyway I have some white and rust wagon wheels with crappy tires on them. Now my plan is to get a set of wheels and get the rust and corrosion off the wheels and to repaint them. Neon green. Now the car is all spray painted but I think it looks good and it will be a eye catcher. But since the car is spray painted the wheels could be spray painted as well that is fine.

 

My question is what is the best way to remove the rust and corrosion off the wheels, (sand blasting and a powder coat sounds expensive) What is a budget way to do this?

 

I will soon switch them to pugs (neon green pugs) shortly.

ok no reply, does anyone know what sand blasting cost and in the portland/vancouver area where to go. If this is the only way?

Well... I didn't have much to contribute on this the first time, but if I were needing to do it, and on the cheap, heres how it might sound.

 

I'd have a go at them with a wire wheel, or wire brush, then lots of sand paper, some kind of primer (or rust prevention you suggested), then over that with a few coats of your colour. But I'm definately no expert on this stuff.

Can't see why it wouldn't work though.

yes the whole car is neon green with some other colors.

I will put up a few pics but the car is not done yet. It is still in the process.

Ok it was neon green before but we just painted over the white paint that was originally on the car.

Now with this paint job we took it down to bare metal, primer white, then neon green to make it bright as possible.

The back bed area has speaker holes cut out of the the panels and water proof speakers are going in near the seats and the high roll-bar. The bed has roll-on Rhino guard as so does the cab. After painting is all done clear coat will be sprayed on so hopefully the color will not fade, Or scratch off. It is only spray paint.

Future updates will be 15" neon Green pugs, weber, small lift, amp, 1800 upgrade and may change to a auto from a stick. And was thinking but only thinking of lambo doors.

Since you're going to need to take the wheels to a shop anyways ask them which media is best.Sand,bead,etc....they'll know.To most of us here we'll just tell you sand or beadblast them.Zipstrip type stuff works well too,but mighty caustic.

 

I guess you'll be busy this summer going to Triathalons,Sailing regattas,and stuff like that.Great support vehicle for runners,bikers,walkers,etc. I hope you do a few of those charity runs,etc. like for Diabetes,AIDS,Cancer,and such.Load the bed with ice and drinks and you're the king.

Not only will you look cool you'll be functional.Support vehicles often have to travel slower than the traffic you'll be buffering from the participants so the strobes will indeed be well liked by all for safety reasons alone.

 

Gotta admit,I kind of looked the other way when the whole idea came to view,but I like what you're doing now. .....not crazy about the pajama paintjob,but it'll probably grow on me.

To be honest all the colors on the back ground are a shade of green (Neon, forest, and Apple) The apple looks sort of pink against the other greens I will have to tell my wife about the pj comment though.
