February 11, 200719 yr I went to RockAuto.com looking for a valve cover gasket set for my 97 DOHC. They offer gaskets with and without grommets and with and without spark plug seals. What should I order? Anyone done this job recently? My truck did not require the grommets or seals so I am not familiar with these items and their service life. Thanks, rd
February 11, 200719 yr Do the whole job, VC gaskets, grommets, and seals. If your engine has gone far enough, or seen enough heating/cooling cycles, to require VC gaskets then you can almost count on the grommets and seals to be in the same condition as the VC gaskets and need replacement.
February 11, 200719 yr Yah just replace all that stuff. At least the spark plug hole seals. They tend to compress with time and result in oil in the spark plug holes. The bolt hole seals, well if you don't replace them and you see a couple that are leaking afterward it's pretty easy to just pull that bolt and replace that one.
