unverviking Posted February 11, 2007 Share Posted February 11, 2007 Took a 93 Legacy L Wagon AWD Auto with 120k on it and on right turns heard a clankety clank on right turns when accelerating, both from stops and rolling. From my vantage point, I'm almost saying it's a clutch of some sort in the AWD in the rear. It is an Automatic with AWD, I owned a the same car but with 5MT, but this one has less miles on it. Wondering if anyone has experienced this, and what could it be, about how much to repair. I'm on the fence about buying, it's a good deal. Only $1850... Thanks in advance for any and all answers. Can you elaborate ?? I've casually looking for an auto, so my wife can drive it too. But if I need to avoid it, or look to make sure it's been rubuilt, etc... The automatics in subarus, as long as they are maintained last the life of the car (in most cases). The failure rate of automtaics vs manual seem to be equal (ie not often). The achillies heel in ALL subaru automatics is the AWD units. If the car has had unmatched tires, drivin on a flat, or poor history of maintanence (auto) then they will have problems. The manual is far less forgiving then the automatic when torque bind rears its ugly head. That being said, I would walk away from this car. That clunk during turns can be any number of things, from inexpensive to very expensive, so its not worth the risk. nipper Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
