February 15, 200719 yr thermostat replaced or their gasket replaced due to leakage, or did my mom and her '04 Forester get jipped?
February 15, 200719 yr Thats like asking if anyone got sold a set of tires because they wore out. Yes thats a reasonable repair depending upon the problem. They can stck close (over heat) stick open (no heat and poor gas mileage) or be sluggish. Anythying with a gasket can leak, and its a prudent thing to replace the t-stat when the gasket is replaced. nipper
February 15, 200719 yr The thermostat is a $5 part, and the gasket is $2. These are very easily accessable, so labor should be 1 hour max. The water PUMP, on the other hand, is difficult to get to. This part can also wear out, and also has a gasket that can develop a leak. This part is closer to $50, with labor of several hours. And changing the thermostat with it is wise. Is that what you mean?
