O2 sensor and Y pipe recontruction

Featured Replies

I am doing the EA-EJ swap(more like the never ending swap) Anyway I have a question concerning the O2 sensor. When I pulled the 90 legacy EJ22 someone had removed most of the Y pipe.I have the headers that come off the engine but no y pipe if that makes sense. Also when I pulled the harness from another 90 legacy it didn't have O2 wires(nothing had been cut either) did the 90 legacy with ej22 have an O2 sensor?Could you please post pics of your stockish* Y pipe and O2 sensor location.

*Can be oversized pipe just stock layout.

Sorry, I don't have a '90, so can't provide a pic. However, AutoZone's "Component Locator" says:

"On your 1990 Subaru Legacy, the Oxygen Sensor is:

Under hood, passenger side, lower engine area, below exhaust pipe flange, mounted in exhaust pipe"

http://www.autozone.com/servlet/UiBroker/?UseCase=C001&UserAction=performQuickPartType&Parameters=%7C%7EAuto+Store%7C%7ECOMPONENT+LOCATIONS%7C%7EOxygen+Sensor

My 90 Legacy AWD (EJ22/auto) has an O2 sensor. I had to replace it.

The connector for it is on the right side of the engine close to the

intake manifold. It could easily be overlooked.

do you have pic of that connector by chance?

My son has the car right now, no idea when I'll see either of them.

It's a square grey four pin connector. The connector on the wiring

harness should be a female connector. The connector should be

near the right rear, under the edge of the intake. I'm thinking it

has BLUE, WHITE, and two BLACK wires. I've also learned not

all Subaru's of the same year are the same.

I just have a flat 3 connector that goes to cam angle sensor,a flat 3 connector that goes to crank angle sensor, and a 1 wire connector that goes to the knock sensor.Nothing else under intake. Then I have 3 square connectors that come from the left fender.Does dis mean I dont have an O2 sensor?I suppose I could wire everything up,put the motor in and see if starts and throws "o2 sensor" codes...

There should be a harness that comes onto the right side

of the engine from inside the car. It should branch off for

the purge solenoid and coolant temp sensor. Near there

should be another 4 pin connector for the O2 sensor.

If I had the car here I could tell you more. Its been a

year since I was under the hood of it. But since I had

to replace the O2 sensor and purge solenoid I am pretty

sure of the locations of most connectors on that side

of the engine. The locations are the same on my 2000 OBS,

though the connectors are different. Look on any 2.2 engine

for the O2 sensor harness. It will be in the same location on

the engine.
