November 21, 200322 yr Last weekend I tried to help a friend replace the front brake pads on her 91 XT6. The calipers would turn in so far, but not the last 1/8" or so needed to fit them over the shoes. The parking brake was off. The bleeder valve was open. What did we miss?
November 21, 200322 yr Dave, I don't care what anyone says, try a big rump roast C Clamp! Especially for that little bit of distance. Boz
November 21, 200322 yr Author It has the E-Brake on the front like an EA82. So, I would say more like an EA82 than my Legacy. I'm guessing the Imp is the same as a Leg... I thought about using a C-clamp for the last 1/8" but there is a rubber boot covering some mechanisms opposite the caliper face where the other side of the C-clamp would go???
November 21, 200322 yr Keep turning Dave it'll go in. Its a real pain to get it in w/o tearing the boot though.
November 21, 200322 yr sometimes thepiston will disengage from the parking brake mechanism. if it keeps turning and doesnt go in, tap on it with a hammer until it goes in while turning. sometimes they do that. the last 2 that i did did that.
November 22, 200322 yr Author If I manually move the lever where the e-brake attaches should I see the piston move in and out??
