Hey everybody,

 

I've got a question about my 97 legacy outback. 94,000 miles. headgaskets not done. I've noticed some gunk in my coolant catch tank recently that looks alot like rock salt. I cant think of a better way to describe it. It hasn't lost any coolant and I went as far as having it checked for oil contamintion. It was fine. Any idea of what this could be? It's every phase 1 2.5 owners first impulse to assume the worst, any insight would be great.

Just remove the resivoir and clean it. It can be minerals from someone using tap water in the cooling system, can just be crud.

thanks alot, Is there any worry about introducing air into the system when removing a reservoir?

Well generally one doesnt do it with the car running, and thats how you will get air in the system.

 

So youll be fine
