Disty rotor replacement?

Featured Replies

i can't seem to get the damn distributor rotor off. the new one seems like it just slides on, but the old one won't slide off.:cornfuzz:

Mine just slides off but I have seen some on other car makes that have a screw in the top or in the side of the Rotor. If you are replaceing it anyway you could try and pry it off. Carefully of course. -- GoatBoy

The guys at the Vortex BBS told me to take a pair of vise grips or Channellocks and carefully crush the rotor!

I wouldn't do this unless your dist. has a cover between the rotor and the body of the dist to prevent junk from falling in. However, if you are careful, you might be able to cause a crack in the rotor body and peel it away.

BTW, the rotors on the VW are glued on. That's why they are such a PITA.

look for a screw on the side. if its not there, give it a good yank, may have to grab onto it with pliers. dont take the screw out of the top, because that holds the distributor shaft together!
