I need an electronic actuator for my cruise control. I tested the little electric motor and it moves barely a nanometer when energized. Is it practical to get a used one, or should I just buy a new one?

Its rare that we here about these things going bad.

 

Are you sure its electric, i though it used engine vacum, or did they change that?

This one uses the electric servo for the CC cable. I will have to check the VIN number on this car to see if it is really a 2k model. It is registered as a 2000 model Outback Wagon Limited edition. I replaced the cc control module, brake switch, checked fuses, checked wire continuity with a meter, cleaned and reinstalled the steering column switch, and checked the dash switch/button. I finally pulled the servo unit off, ran some wires from the battery leads, then tested the servo motor. I may have not done this right, but the servo would attempt to move clockwise, then switch post and it would try to move counter clockwise. The mechanisms move freely, so they are not hung up on anything. I would have thought the motor would run steady when tested. I'm running out of ideas on this.

Its going to be a stepper motor (i imagine), which is not easily testable on the bench.

 

How did you test it? How many leads does it have?
