Neutral postion switch

Featured Replies

After much research and troubleshooting, I am going to replace the transmission neutral position switch on my 98 Legacy Outback (AT). Could someone give me a description and location of the part? Other posts have said it's relatively easy to do.

Thanks for the replies,

Kirk

Neutral saftey switch.

It is easy to do. Its under the car on the transmission, very straight forward. Youll work harder to get the car in the air to get under it then removing the switch :)

For the AT cars, the neutral switch is part of the inhibitor switch, and while I believe it can be removed from the outside of the transmission, it may not be fun.

You can see it in this pic, it's where the cable goes to.

They are two in the same thing, and we tend to use the names interchangably. Haynes manual is straight forward in it, Raise car, unplug, unbolt, reverse to put it back on.
