looking at anouther subaru

I have a 96 outback now with 246,000 on it and have found a 02 WRX for $6300.The WRX has 170,000 miles on it,third gear grind ,and a CEL.Does this sound like a good deal?the body looks good just worried about the high milage and trans issue.Do these cars start having problems with higher milage?i do not want anouther subaru that i have to wrench on alot.

Thats actually the highest mileage WRX I've heard about. I would be very cautious of the transmission, these cars are known for having issues with them. It will probably have to be replaced soon. But as far as motors go, I've seen testimonies of the ej22t going for over 250k with not problems. I don't think the ej20t would have much less expectancy with proper maintainence as any other motor

go for it thats a awsome deal, even if u need to swap the tranny or change the fluid. Used tranny can run like $500 for a good one which isn't a large price to pay.

It would, but you would have to change the clutch because they use different types (wrx pull, 2.5 push) and you've have to swap out the rear end. And the 2.5rs trans is weaker inside than the wrx unit is.

I decided to get the WRX,the car has leather interior and is in great shape, all stock.I drove the car from San Jose to Sacramento and it drove nice.I couldnt pass it up for $6200.
