4wd light on dash question

Featured Replies

i have a 88 manual 4wd wagon w/ 180,000mi , the 4wd works good, but the lo light only comes on , no 4wd hi or even the light on the dash it is also a gl , i think a type of plug on the tranny or around the shifter ? thanks :cornfuzz:

Jim, your statement "no 4wd hi or even the light on the dash "

Is a bit confusing as you also say"the 4wd works good"

Does the car move in 4wd high range?

If you are asking where the switch for the dashboard indicator that tells you you are in "4WD HI" is, you will find it under the console behind the 4wd lever.

it's the light that tells you your in 4wd , which is on the dash lo-hi and a picture of a car and telling you are in 4wd , mine only says low , the 4wd works just fine , i was wondering where might be the problem , when i first bought it everything worked just fine , thanks

When you are in 4WD High, the green "4WD" and "tire" lights should illuminate. When in 4WD Low the amber "Low" light is added to the display. There is no "High" light if that's what you are asking.

skip, the 4wd switch is in the transmission itself. the switch in the center console is for the LO.

Jim, its quite possible the bulb in the display could be out

Donald, thanks for the clarification but it does not agree with the 88 FSM.

Under the section for "Electrical Unit Location" it states

"4wd Lo indicator switch---attached to transmission case"

I do agree that on a push button single range, the switch for the 4wd indicator is on the transmission case.

i was working on it today i put it into 4wd and all the lights came on [ the picture of the car w/ 4 wheels] the low light also , so there might be a short in a wire around the console lever:wave:
