EGR warning light?

Featured Replies

I have been searching for information on what the egr light on my dash means and havent had much luck. I have an 86 4wd wagon with the 1.8l engine it has a hitachi carb. Obviously I assumed that it means that the egr valve is probably faulty but i was wondering how it derives this information. The valve seems to move freely so i was wondering if some other part of the egr system could be at fault or the "sensor" that activates this light might be the problem.

I didn't know there was a light for that on the dash. I think you are right about the warning being caused by a electrical circuit. The EGR circuit usually has a solenoid wired to it and the ECU monitors that.

The light activates after 60,000 miles to tell you to check/clean the EGR valve. You need to reset the light. up under the dash, way up against the side wall, drivers side, you should be able to see 3 connectors, blue I think. Tkae the 2 connected toghether, unhook them and plug into the unused connector. this resets for another 60,000 miles,

Wow. Wished I had known this before, great information. This was the only light blaring at me on a Wagon I sold long ago.

I had to remove the fuse holder to be able to reach the connectors, but it worked thanks.
