July 18, 200718 yr Author bump for more info??? are boost controllers needed? anything along the lines of complicating computers? thanks -Dalton
July 18, 200718 yr Righto Dalton, You will need to control your timing, either electronically or by re-curving your distributor. boost can be dealt with by either bypass blow off valves or a wastegate (external) I have the bits. PM me. Matt

July 19, 200718 yr Of course, I used a toyota SC14 blower from a 2.0 litre six cylinder toyota crown (JDM)..about $400 Aus on ebay. These have a electromagnetic clutch to allow switching control. I used a MSD boost timing master, it retards the timing by upto 15 degrees as the boost builds. It was about $250 US, it stopped detonation completly. Anything you do (if it is gasoline powered, not LPG) will need this control. Piston will melt any other way. It is possible to adjust the distributor curve, this will sacrifice off boost running quality, the MSD runs it perfectly both ways. Keep the boost mild, ie under 10psi or drop the compression by installing EA82T pistons and wind it up. Intercool it if you can, I found the throttle body best positioned before the Supercharger. Belts slip, use a serpentine system if you can, 5pk or 6pk multirib. Wrap as much around the pulleys as you can using idlers. It will need more fuel, a fuel injected platform from the start will help, there are a few carbs that can do the job, hard to find though. Theres more, my brain is full.. later
July 19, 200718 yr Good, he may as well start with a solid motor. In that case, he should use a perfectly balanced 3 main bearing motor, not that modern rubbish
July 24, 200718 yr Author so what type of suoerchargers would you guys recommed using. something along the lines of easy to work with, relyable, good power, easy to mount. etc.? whats your brand?
July 25, 200718 yr I don't recall the motor code, but we got the s/c-er in the late 80's early 90's MR2.
July 25, 200718 yr That's a slightly smaller unit, made for a 1600 cc engine, this one is for a 2000cc. Same roots type just a different capacity

July 25, 200718 yr Author you could still use a 1.6 l s/c tho right? i'd plan on using the set-up on an N/A block so probably not running more than 4 or 5 psi...
July 26, 200718 yr Nup Crazy, that won't work. The SC14 I used only made 5-6 psi with the EJ22, maximum. The smaller unit would only give you 2-3psi I am afraid. You could ditch the clutch and try spinning it faster but then heat becomes a problem and I see you live in Arizona... I bet you ten beer tickets that it is hotter there than here in Tasmania. Ebay will find you one.
