July 15, 200718 yr alright, so pending the transaction going down tonight, i will be the new owner of another EA82 Wagon. the good: body is straight, little to no rust, (only) 175,000 miles, everything looks to be alright the bad: its previous owner, who has little to no mechanical knowledge, said that "the car was overheating, so i took it to a mechanic, and they put water in it, but it turns out it was the oil holder that wasn't working, so the motor won't work." she is from brazil, so im not really sure if she expressed what she meant, but it sounded like the car either ran out of oil or water got in the engine or something. i too have little knowledge of the automotive world, but i took a look at everything today and here is what i found. the oil dipstick is covered in a whiteish gray sludge (ill take a picture later). the air filter is covered in the same. transmission fluid looks clean and full. everything else looks relatively ok. or at least as ok as my car does. im not sure what happened or what this sounds like, but i was hoping that someone here could. either way, for $50, i figure i cant go wrong. any help or ideas would be great. ill take some pictures later. thanks in advance. kenny
July 15, 200718 yr yeah, i emailed the lady about that one... can't go wrong if it's only $50, she wanted $200 before
July 15, 200718 yr either it's got a really blown headgasket, or one of the freeze plugs in the head came out and drained the coolant into the block. Pull off the valve covers and take a look for a plug hole where the freeze plug should be.
July 15, 200718 yr Badly blown head gasket. Its sucking that crap through the PCV system. I'll bet you'll drain out 1.5 gallons of oil/water mix.
July 15, 200718 yr hey its possable theat she could have filled the oil fill with water we had to flush a soob out because a lady did that poor car.
July 15, 200718 yr Author i was thinking she probably ran out of oil and that was why she was overheating. anyways, what is my first step in figuring out what to do with this thing? kenny
July 15, 200718 yr Hey, if it's rust free and everything, it's worth it just to find another EA82 to swap in. Sounds like a badly blown head gasket or some other sort of water/oil mixing event....
July 16, 200718 yr You can always make a quick buck and sell it to me Replace the engine and the radiator... thats just to start. Anything that got that white crap on it...
July 18, 200718 yr well if your oil looks like a wendy's frostee then you have coolant in the oil. you will have to do the head gaskets or swap another motor. for 50 bucks you cant go wrong. if you dont fix it im sure someone would give you 100 bucks for it. at least keep it from going to junk
July 18, 200718 yr Author ya, its in the for sale section. if i can get a quick 100 for it, id be very happy to let someone else tackle the work. i just dont have the time or space right now. kenny
