Carb Issues Cold Start!!

Featured Replies

Ok, My car will start but I wont be able to touch the Gas pedal or it will die. but If I pump it twice then start its fine it idles up to 2200 and sits there until she warms up... then she idles between 1100 and 700 depending on how the car is sitting. Its a hicrappy carb. but here is the strange thing. I stoped the car last night and turned it off ran in the front of my complex to get mail. I start the car and go... I turn the corner and she dies. I start it back up and it dies when I take my foot off of the gas.. so I readjust the idle screw and she's idling again! its like a phantom Idle screw.

I'm confused all my problems started with The gas station at Walmart in renton. should I seafoam? or maybe some CRC Carb cleaner? or even some Lucas Fuel injection cleaner?

anyhow Someone please help....

It was running perfectly fine before you bought gas?

pretty much

It wasn't giving me this problem until after I got this gas.. I had other problems.. but I remember that I got in the car the next morning and she didn't want to start

You found your problem.

Try putting a couple of cans of dry gas in the tank. After you run this tank out replace the fuel filter and reset the carb.

the next tank should be a name brand premium, then you can go back to buying real fuel.

but this is my second tank of gas... (I put texaco in there.) it seems to run better.. The wierd thing is once its warm its fine. I can shut it off and start it again no problem.

Your carb can be full of dirt. If its running better with the second tank, let it run all the way down and fill it up again. And like i siad change your fuel filter, and dump some dry gas in.

After the third tank of gas, if you still have a problem, i would wonder if you have clogged jet.

ALso is you choke closed when the car is cold? Does it open when the car starts (choke pulloff does this job, they can go bad).
