Tranny Swap

Featured Replies

Ok i did some checking in the search and i didnt see this one pop up

1988 subaru dl push button 4wd

if one day i wanted to convert it to the dual range transmission what would i need to do other then pick up the tranny and make a few arangements in the floorboards

Ben

The hole in the floor should be the same. All you'd need is the d/r tranny and its shifters, and the console from the donor car.

it all bolts up the same

parts you will need:

transmisson with shifter, shifter boot console plate

parts on the car that will fit the same:

driveshaft, axles, tranny mount, clutc-flywheel-pressure plate

really the only thing you will have to find that matches is a console that is the same color.

the threaded end on the clutch cable may be different, if so use a lug nut as a spacer

Been there, done that!

When you do this conversion, I highly recomend replacing clutch assy.(if already standard) and rear main seal, even if it's not leaking.

I assume that is a standard 5 speed and not an automatic 4 with push button 4wd. If it's the latter, you will need to get a pedal assy with a clutch pedal, plus a flywheel for a standard tranny.
