Legacy Blower Fan Problems...

Featured Replies

I took out the lower plate of my a/c and heater blower fan after it quit working ('94 Legacy). Looks like the brushes are worn out, powder everywhere and little metal left on them. Are the brushes a dealer part or do I have to replace the whole fan assembly? It look like the brushes just pull out and can be replaced easily.Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated !

I have had the blower motor of my 55 Thunderbird and the hydraulic trim motor of my boat both rebuilt at a local auto/electric shop. Both just needed the brushes replaced, and in both cases the cost was minimal, when compared to replacing the motors themselves. Find out the cost for a new one from the Subaru dealership ( they will not just sell you the brushes I'm betting), and check the Yellow pages for an auto/electric shop that rebuilds alternators and starters. Describe your problem to them and they can most likely give you an estimate. From there it should be easy to make a decision. Good luck!

has anyone found a source for the brushes/brush assy for a bloweer motor? Mine is a 91 legacy, took apaprt and was full of leaves, cat fuzz, etc. and kept brushes from making contact-cleaned up and is fine, but the brushes are getting close to end of life-dont want to spring for motor unless no alternative. Thanks
