Actual Yellow fog lights OPINIONS!!!!

Ever since i got my FIRSt subaru, and before that!!!! on every vehicle ive owned, i've wanted a set of yellow fog lights. I love the look. Finding them is a completly different task. in my buddies 2.5rs, he ALSO wanted yellows, so we got some PIAA's that claimed to be yellow... but when looking at the car with them on.... you could MAYBE see a little bit of a yellow tint, they weren't yellow....

 

I understand the color temprature chart, and how the 2500k is probably the yellow i want....

Any ideas??? i just want a yellow yellow yellow light. I would like to just purchase the H3 bulb, or if theres some other clever thing people have come up with. these would be going in my XT6 with existing fog lights, but i'd also like to get a set of hella's in yellow for my legacy, and soon for my GL-10.

I've heard good things about the PIAA Ion Crystal bulbs. Personally I'd stay away from HID conversion kits, especially for foglights.

I read recently that yellow fog lights are actually worse than normal white fog lights because most of them are made yellow with a filtered lens, which reduces the light output. I also read that the yellow light is not any better at penetrating fog than white light.

I have to second that. My 1 low beam bulb went out on my 05 LGT. Emailed Daniel and he suggested a higher wattage bulb (not overdriven). The bulbs produced pleasing strong light without white/blueish tints.

Well, there's a source right there Daniel Stern says the same thing, though it wasn't where I remember reading it. He makes it seem smarter because he uses the same technical mumbo jumbo that he derides the cheap products about. In the end, he says that they make yellow light by one of the various methods of filtering, which will always reduce the total output of your lights.

 

He does say that yellow lights cut down glare, which is true. It does this because it reduces contrast, while bluish lights increase contrast (he doesn't say this). This is sometimes perceived as glare as you try to squint to make out he details in the shadows. However, there is more detail in the midtones. Yellows wash out the details a little.

 

He also fails to account for the fact that everyone's eyes are different and are more sensitive to certain colors. Heck, I can even notice a little bit of difference between my own two eyes. Colors are a little warmer in the right eye and a little cooler in the left.

I swear to god just do this. Buy a set of bright freaking Hella fogs, then buy a can of duplex yellow chrome spray paint, spray the fogs with this stuff and it will make them pure yellow but very see through in the sense that it won't look like you spray painted them but as if the lens itself is yellow. It looks great and I've done it on a few BMW's & VW's for my friends. I plan on doing it to my fogs if I get my outback bumper.
