August 20, 200718 yr Me and a coworker headed out for our 1st real trip. We decided to take a moderate trail, starting in Strawberry CA via Highway 50, and using some forrest service trails we made our way to Highway 88. I believe the gap spans 3 to 4 miles. Pretty easy going, with a few hairy spots along the way. The truck performed pretty good. My gearing has much to be desired for, and my buddies truck has no shocks, just really soft springs, so I was left carrying the majority of the gear. All in all, it did pretty good with little body damage. Here is a video of some of the tough spots. There were a couple more, but I ran out of tape in the camcorder. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-9164480549194483518 I think im going to start saving for a doubler kit before I take the truck out again. My clutch is hating life. -Brian
September 6, 200718 yr Author Finally got the pictures scanned and uploaded. Sorry for the 35mm quality. I guess next time im bringing my digital along
September 7, 200718 yr Nice! I need to get me a solid-axle Toyota. The Jeeps just ain't cuttin' it. Do you run lockers in that thing? (I wonder because I might be getting a Toyota, and I'm wondering which lockers folks like best in those.)
January 14, 200818 yr Sure do... only in the rear but i love mine. Its welded Nice toys!! looks like a fun adventure
January 23, 200818 yr Author 46.... that trip wasnt 1/2 as fun as this trip here: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=80898 Wouldnt mind having a built 4Runner accompany us next time. -Brian
January 30, 200818 yr what size tire are you running brian?and what other basic mods are done to your rig?cheers, brian
January 30, 200818 yr Author Its got 33's on it now. And the only mods I've done is the hysteer conversion. It already has a welded rear and triangulated rear shocks. Soon I will continue the cage and do some more work to the axles. With this tax refund stimulus check we're getting, I will get the 4.7:1 Transfercase gears and start searching for an affordable front locker.
January 31, 200818 yr what diff ratio are you now?i am thinking of getting 5.29's but some folks i have been talking to are saying that the 4.10's are worth it for the strength.cheers, brian
January 31, 200818 yr Author Thats the reason im not worrying about 5.29's.... the 4.10's are supposed to be stronger and after i get my t-case gears IM sure i wont even notice the 4.10's
