cyberbackpacker
Just thinking ahead here for way down the road, but I like to have time to read and plan. Si I was wondering what things need to be accounted for in swapping in a 5mt into an ea81... what axles would have to be used? DOJ cups swapped? Any ideas on a crossmember... try and reuse the 5mt x-member as the base, and modify as needed, or...? Transmission tunnel have to me massaged at all? Other things to consider? Any good links, pics, details are appreciated. I am visual by nature, so pics help, but so do descriptions. Thanks.
TheYeti
I would start by browsing the contents in this linky: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=45 You should be able to get most of what you need in there. cyberbackpacker
I have browsed the USRM considerably and have not seen this addressed... maybe it is under my nose and I am missing it, but nothing I saw addresses a new gen (ie Legacy) awd 5mt swap into an ea81 (or ea82 for that matter). You would need the adapter plate to mate the EJ tranny to the EA motor. I think that the ej tranny is similar to the EA82 tranny in size. It has the two piece driveshaft. There might also be an issue if you are retaining the stock EA81 hubs b/c then you will need custom axles. I have a 5spd EJ tranny from an EJ18 that has a 3.9 final drive. Let me know if you are interested in it. BTW sorry about the XT6 parts. I didn't have time to get them. BW
