September 21, 200718 yr what kind of mess are the previous owners likely to have made of this engine by putting a turbo on an engine with a 9.5 comp ratio? it's an XT 88 I got referred to in previous thread with a frozen cam on the drivers side. now that I'm looking up the model information this wasn't a half a$$ repair it was a total mod install of the turbo on something that wasn't supposed to have it. So... amusing or disaster?
September 21, 200718 yr So... amusing or disaster? yes. hmmm, sounds interesting. how do you know it's a 9.5 compression ratio non-turbo block/pistons? how do you know they didn't swap an entire turbo long block engine? where are the oil lines, are they running to the back of the passengers side head? that's a tough set up on non-turbo pistons then lumping on top of that how ever many miles it already has and the additional heat to the oil, 20 year old gaskets and seals...it's tough to do it "right", but there are certainly better and worse ways to do this job. hope you get it running, be interesting to see how it runs.
September 21, 200718 yr Author I dont KNOW it's the 9.5 compression engine... but it has the original XT spider intake and the engine is covered in oil, so I'm starting to suspect it was probably being pushed out of every seal by the excessive compression will be interesting to see what happens when I get that cam replaced. what do you bet the head gaskets are blown too?
September 21, 200718 yr Author must be a text thing I haven't figured out yet or one of us need more coffee.
September 21, 200718 yr i don't know any of those acronyms either, don't feel bad! i wouldn't be surprised if the block is toast, but of course im' jumping the gun having never seen it and all. could be headgaskets, seals, piston rings, hole in a piston...etc. i'd try to do a compression or leak down test on it.
September 21, 200718 yr i dont know, its not texting, i just took the first letters from "this thread is useless with out pics!" we need that smile bad!
September 21, 200718 yr Author OK I've figured out how to put the pictures here but I can't make the files small enough that it will down load them. any one know how to do that with out making the picture into a usless postage stamp?
September 22, 200718 yr Author well the ECU ends 320 so it is non turbo, cam is on, now what to do with this turbo mess?
