Steering rack interchange?

Featured Replies

I have a 93 legacy that needs a steering rack. Junk yards say only 92-93 rack will fit. I believe many others will "fit" but may have different ratios or assist level specs.

What are my choices?

yeah i wouldn't think twice about swapping EJ racks...but i could be wrong, i would just assume they're the same based on some not quite related work. i think you are correct in saying the ratios will be the only differences.

doesn't help you - but i use EJ steering rack bushings on XT6's, perfect fit, i think they change very little with the steering racks.

Yeah many EJ racks will interchange. Exceptions are 05+ Impreza because of the different crossmember/mounting stuff and also other newer ~02+ stuff may not work because the spline count on the column changed. But I think if you take the double U-joint thingy that matches the rack it opens up more options.

Your 93 Legacy does have the quickest ratio short of the STi, though.

So a rack from a 95-99 outback should fit?(these are more common in the J-yard, and a bit newer than the worn out 1st gen Legs.) It won't have longer inner tierods? I wouldn't think so, but...
