Cleaning calcium deposits from cooling sys.

Recommended Posts

I am looking for suggestions on cleaning mineral deposits from the engine cooing passages. The EA82 I'm working on was run with bad water or something and has thick yellow deposits everywhere.

CLR works but it etches the alluminum and might cause head gasket leaks. I don't want to deck the heads and block. I have had good luck with distiled vinegar in an ultrasonic cleaner but that's no good for big parts like heads and case halfs. I'm going to try boiling a head in a big stock pot.

Any other ideas? What has worked for you? It shouldn't be this hard.

Clean out what you can and fill the system with antifreeze and Distilled Water. Flush it in about 3-5k miles and fill it like that again. The distilled water will work on cleaning the deposits.

I've never gotten scale or deposits with distilled water. It helps your hoses, rad, and heater core last much longer as well.

try putting some liquid dishsoap in the cooling system.run it through everything until the car is warm/hot thenhook the hose up and flush everything out.you know when its done because the water will come out clean....oh yea it makes bubbles so make sure all the bubbles are flushed out before you fill it with coolant.
