Engine work in Portland

Featured Replies

Hey I was seeing if anyone knew of a quality, preferably cheap Subaru mechanic in Portland? I'm in need of timing belt/water pump and routine maintenance.

I believe Richies shop is Superior Import and repair but to be sure PM or email the user "RichieRich". Hes a long time USMB member and works in a shop run by himself and his dad a former master technician.

Not to steal business. But you can do it yourself, there's a write up on how to replace the belts...ask how to replace the pump. It's good knowledge, a great feeling of accomplishment, and saves you money.

Here's the belt procedure. The engine doesn't have to be out of the car.

+1 for doing it your self. just pick up a nice repair manual and spend a little time and you will be done before you even know it.

subarus are really easy to work on and you can save some major money.

depending on miles too you might want to pick your self up a full timing belt kit with new pullys. i replaced all mine and man you never notice how loud your motor is till you replace them with new ones.

good luck and if you need any help, there are tons of guys here that can walk you through most anything.

I go to Richie for everything... they were having a special on timing belts recently, but it might be over by now...

he's up on NE 82nd and Prescott... 503-288-8634...

these subarus really are easy to work on, but sometimes I'm just lazy, or don't have the time... or I do most of the work and something still isn't quite right and I take it there to have him figure it out...

I don't mind banging away on my older subies, but with the forester I almost always take it in... at least until I get better...

+1 On Richie's shop. The only problem is that they have such a good rep. that sometimes they can get stacked up. They're fast, but Portland has a lot of subaru owners. Even if you do the work yourself you can get parts through them. I get almost all my parts there even though I now live about 35 miles away. He'll give you a good price, good advice, and you know you are getting the correct part.
