  1. home depot will make replacement keys for you until they get it right... it's just a pain to have to keep going back... which is why I just go to the smaller stores now... Atlasta is pretty good, but they're not a subaru place... but they can make a key for you from the tumbler for under $20...
  2. where are you located? fill out your profile info... a lot of people have spares, so there's a good chance you can get a free one from somebody here... you can have mine... although it's from an '82... not sure if they're different...
  3. I think I may have found it... I was looking in the wrong spot all along... I was concentrating on the front window and door seals and the couple of small gashes in the pan... posted this in 2006 and didn't find it... in 2007 I had a baby and didn't have time... in 2008 I was in wisconsin and it was frozen so it was impossible to find it then... now it's 2009 and I'm back in the pacific northwet... ... last month I caught my car in a half-fogged state while on a break at work... it was the rear that was fogging up first! so without me in it breathing heavy and fogging up the front with my breath and damp clothes it was actually the rear fogging up first... so I started poking around back there and found wet carpet... and a wet metal panel to the right of the rear door latch... and wet behind the rear door panel... so I started checking out the rear door window seals... the bottom corner chrome pieces had popped up a little and debris was accumulating under there... and I noticed that the rear window seal was actually 4 pieces... 1 piece around the top and sides... 1 for the bottom... and 1 for each bottom corner... 27 years of exposure seemed to cause shrinkage of the rubber, and with small debris creeping in that made the gaps between the rubber pieces increased... so I put duct tape over the seeming gaps and that seemed to help for a week or so... it was pretty dry again today so I put a bunch of clear silicon in the gaps, and under the rubber inside and out near where the pieces join... I also put some along the side and bottom of the outside of the window seal... so hopefully this was my moisture issue... the rear cargo carpet/mat is draped over some milk crates in the garage... it has already dripped a small river in just one day... the passenger side rear carpet is also wet, so either need to get a space heater in there or remove the carpet... I noticed that under the rubber the metal seems a little rusty, so I think I'll have to remove that bit of rust before I replace the window... my defroster overlay on the window is toast, and now I need a new seal, so it's an even better reason to replace the window and seal...
  4. ooo, pretty... the gates are still open into the forest? or did you find a road in with no gate?
  5. I prefer colors that are easier for rescuers to spot in the forest... (:
  6. I've also heard of the rubber glove trick... I'd like to see the 22R cover people are talking about though... yeah we learned that one the hard way... hehe...
  7. cool that looks like a fun machine...
  8. y0 wut up peep? got some pics of your ride?
  9. under this box you type in there should be Additional Options and in there is a Attach Files area... click on Manage Attachments to add pictures... they can't be too large so you'll probably have to size them down... the best way is to upload them to a web site that hosts pictures and then link to there...
  10. many people put the strut blocks on the wrong sides... remember that they have to bring the strut in a little, not out... not sure about the steering extension... thought you could just lengthen the connector... maybe stick an extra universal joint in there?
  11. yes I'd like to but it will have to wail until tax season... I'd like pay off the fozzy and then see what I have left... luckily there are a lot of people in the portland metro area that like to explore the back roads...
  12. sounds fun, but I work weekdays... also my tags expired and I need a new disty before I pass deq...
  13. welcome to the board... you'll want to post in the New Gen section to get your questions answered... the important thing is that the gear ratio is the same...
  14. awesome news! I like wandering around the mt hood forest and some ohv areas for our subarus would be great...
  15. unfortunately we just stopped by at the end of the show on our way into Gifford-Pinchot for camping... I walked through the camping area but I don't remember seeing you there... I think the only person I actually talked to was richierich and his dad... was going to bug SubaruJunkie but he was asleep... hehe... more likely we'll meet up on a trail run one of these days... you guys always go to my favorite places...
  16. nice run, wish I had taken that route home, but we wanted to get the kid to sleep... I'm thinking I need more breweries and liquor stores on my gps now...
  17. subies and EVOS?! so this is a new gen meet? I don't see a lot of brats and hatches in the pics... (:
  18. sweet! some of those are supposed to open this year, or at least next year since this one is almost done...
  19. backcountrycrui, that's a good place to tie things down... Greenley, yeah, I plan to get a roof basket at some point... right now I do put my spare up on the roof, but would like to put 2 spares on the roof... I like the idea of using a retro steel Coleman cooler though... michael appel, the dog gate idea seems pretty good... lay it down and tighten it up to hold everything to the floor so it doesn't hit the rear window... but I don't want my storage solution to get in the way of me getting to the gear... I'm think creative tie-down spots bolted to the floor might be good though... TheSubaruJunkie, I mentioned that a milk crate is currently what I'm using, but it's not secured... but I don't want holes in the floor to run straps through since I don't want water/air leaking in... but I could seal the holes with some eyelets bolted in... but I also don't want to disrupt the flow of being able to slide large things in there if my buddy suddenly needs help moving a desk... TeamCF, that's quite the 2x4 rack system you've got goin' on there... unfortunately that takes up too much floor space that might be needed by canine passengers... so I'm looking for a more vertical solution... otherwise a cargo cover would keep things in and prevent them from flying forward and through a window... ... my milk crate works pretty well most of the time... and I like that I can take it out and bring it with me if I need to work on the forester or just need more room for cargo when not on a trail needing tools... but when it does start moving I get worried... so right now I'm thinking I need to put some eyelets in the cargo area (off to the side) to secure my milk crate, and maybe get one of the longer milk crates instead of just the square one... or maybe another square one for the other side behind the wheel well... and then a small net or something to keep the things from coming out of the milk crate... or get some ammo boxes... but I like the size of the milk crates and I'm not sure what sizes ammo boxes come in... all the ammo boxes I've seen have been fairly thin...
  20. "The board requires you to be registered and logged in to view this forum." I registered, but I'll have to wait for approval/activation before I can see the post...
  21. TeamCF, yeah, I'd like to see some pics of how you have everything organized... grossgary, like those reusable grocery bags? hmmm, I do have a bunch of those not being used... not that I have a lot of places to hook straps to, but I could fix that as well... mthoodsub, that's a nice setup you have there... unfortunately the ea81 body doesn't have all the cool hidden compartments of newer models... I only have 1 little storage spot on the side by the washer fluid, nothing under the floor... lostinthe202, are those stock? never seen the back of an outback in any detail... I've though about putting some eyelets back there, as long as they're off to the side so I can still slide big things in there when I need to... ... great ideas so far... keep them coming! especially the ea81 setups... I know some of you have to be uber organized and anal about those things like I am... (:
  22. so I'm a little tired of hearing everything in the back of my wagon jump up off the floor and land with a thud every time I'm going over a harsh bump... right now all my tools are mostly in a milk crate, which is a nice small enclosed rugged space but not great for containing things and keeping them from coming out... other various bits, come-a-long, 12v air compressor, water, etc I have tucked behind the front seats on the floor... so... what does everybody else use to secure their gear when they're bouncing around on the trails? got pics? seems like a tool box or ammo box bolted to the floor of the cargo area is the simplest answer... but I'd like to know what everybody else is doing...
  23. bump for me sending you a PM for some details...
