Ok, so I remove the weather strip and find rust. Not bad and it's only on the lip.

 

Anyone fix this before? Ideas?

How bad is the rust? Is it through? In this case a picture would help but the two ways i have i can just tell you

 

1. Easy way. Sand it down to bare metal and POR15 it. Rust preventative paint that is really good. Let that dry overnight and re-install the gasket. Done

 

2. If its bad cut the metal out and have someone or yourself weld in some new metal. Prime and paint.

 

Those are the only real ways i know of dealing with rust.

I think I'll go the POR 15, or rust bullet route.
