how close should the pads be to the rotor? newer caliper, new pads the rotor came off the same car,just swapped everything, looks like a quarter of inch before the pads touch the rotor, should i adgust the piston?

How would you adjust it???

 

 

The calipers should be self adjusting. Perhaps make sure the slide pins and the surfaces the pads rest on are sliding freely. Grease accordingly, but keep grease off of the pads and rotor.

also remember when you get the car down and drive it the piston will push back out of the caliper when you brake to seat the pads...it sometimes looks like alot of room in there......
