April 29, 200817 yr Instead of a stub axle i broke the axle shaft (rear). I was trying to get around a stump going up a slight incline, it was narrow but wide enough for my wagon to go through but the dam root coming from the stump and the hole on the other of it plus the hole on the right side with the rock before it kept pushing me into the stump on my left side. on the first attempt i heard a big bang about the same sound a stub axle makes when it breaks under torque, if it wasn't for that i'm sure i would have made it but with out the locked rear i could only get a taste of it. the old girl wanted to but could quite make it with one wheel under power. i'll get it fixed and will go at it again until i make it.

April 29, 200817 yr yep, done that a couple times. when it happened to me, i barely feathered the throttle and was in a straight line... it just popped, i wasn't even at a walking pace...
April 29, 200817 yr I did that to one of mine at last years WCSS, trying to climb that deeply rutted hill of mud :-p

April 30, 200817 yr Author i just want them to not break... ya, me to. it ruins the fun especially if you don't have a spare with you. i guess i'm going to have to start carrying one with me but i still haven't started carrying a spare stub axle either.
April 30, 200817 yr ya, me to. it ruins the fun especially if you don't have a spare with you. i guess i'm going to have to start carrying one with me but i still haven't started carrying a spare stub axle either. i carry about 6 of those (20 more at the house)... i need to get another spare rear shaft. and start removing a shaft while it's off the trail... probably will reduce my breakage, since my car is rear wheel drive...
May 2, 200817 yr Author Im going welded pretty soon SWEET!!!! It sure does make a difference for a little inconvience.
May 2, 200817 yr one other inconvience is that on muddy sidehills and snow the rear ends likes to drift slightly down hill. nothing major, you'll just adapt, and not realize it does it anymore.
May 2, 200817 yr Author and in snow when your trying to turn it just likes to go straight and then hook up at the point you have your wheels cranked and are plowing snow that it trys and push you into the ditch. but ya you learn to over come that.
